Out in the ocean near Ocrakoke Island
There sits a man and he’s smiling
He’s taking a break from the modern world
Just yesterday he had docked up on the bay
Getting set up to sail her away
He got up at the dawn
After dreaming all night long
Of the big pond
He may quit his job
No more working the way of the world
No more playing the way the world plays around
Some may say that he is lazy
Others may say he’s just taking it easy
But what’s to say’s something he’s not worried about?
Well he made it out O.K.
Where no one tells him what to say
To shout
Anchor’s away
Thinking about old times
Watching the fishing line
And when God put out the light
He sent his anchor down to rest on the ocean floor
Looked up at the starlit sky smiled
Yes and this man has a son and this man has a wife
But the son no longer cries
And the wife’s inside the cabin reading
Some things never change
Like war and peace and death
Life remains
The anchor and the waves
